Mission / History

The San Diego Chicano/Latino Concilio on Higher Education (SD Concilio) is an

organization of educators that advocates for access and success among local Chicano/Latino

students. We have conducted our work for over thirty years. Our advocacy includes research,

reports, position papers, media essays, video pláticas, and meetings with local college and

university officials. We believe that for the local Chicano/Latino community to achieve

empowerment, we need college graduates that have acquired the knowledge and sensibilities

necessary to be transformative change agents for our community.

Our public institutions are

responsible for constructing and maintaining the supportive, inclusive conditions that

contribute to our students’ success. In turn, our elected officials must hold those institutions

accountable. We insist that our Raza students have full access to local, public colleges and

universities and that when attending those institutions, they enjoy an anti-racist environment

that validates the cultural wealth and experience of our students and maximizes their

“academic” and “liberatory” outcomes. Que Viva La Raza!
